Makeup artist Karen Adler shared some details about Cillian’s 2012 Clash photoshoot (X):
Yet another weird and wonderful day with Cillian Murphy, I don’t know what we do but every time we go on shoots there’s a few funny stories to chat over after….We shot this with photographer Christian Oita in a wee darkened studio in the East End of London a few months ago………Wow this guy really nailed the pics… Always enjoy working with Cillian – truly talented and suits any hairstyle !!! (June 2012)
An interview that Cillian did with an Italian blog while at the Berlin Film Festival in February was just published. Below are a few quotes via Google translate. Full interview in Italian and full sized photo at the link. Italian speakers out there - pls message if we messed up. (X)
- I’m not very good at the Hollywood lifestyle and try to avoid it. The less is known about an actor the more the audience can empathize with his character. Unlike many other colleagues I don’t have an entourage. I’m the boss and make the decisions. I don’t even know what the star system is. I have worked in Hollywood many times but I don’t want to live there. I prefer to stay close to my family.
- I’m an open person, I don’t subscribe to one school of thought over another and I’m open to everything. For example, I call myself an atheist but I believe you can be an atheist and nevertheless be open to other beliefs. If someone could prove to me that God exists, I would begin to have faith. But I need the evidence.
- For me success is being a good husband, a good father and a good human being. In essence, being good at what I do.
Narrow escape from number 13 bus for film star
Actor Cillian Murphy, who is in the city at the moment filming Peaky Blinders along with co-star Tom Hardy, had a narrow escape during a close encounter with a single-decker.
Insider’s source reports: “Cillian stepped off the pavement heading towards the passenger side of his waiting limo in North John Street but didn’t seem to notice the fast approaching bus. It sounded its horn and a security guard rushed forward to push him to one side in the nick of time.
“It was definitely a close one … what a way to have gone, being hit by a number 13 bus!”
I’m calling this one bullshit. A closer look at the security guard in question reveals that he’s either completely incompetent or severely vision impaired, because pushing someone to one side requires actual physical contact. In truth the bus is stopped, Murphy is calmly closing the car door and this guy is making a bathroom run. The story is sheer nonsense.
In 2003 film critic Stephen Eustace interviewed Cillian Murphy for The Wexford Echo, a regional Irish newspaper. He shared this photo and a sweet story about what happened at the very moment he took it. Thank you Stephen!
I interviewed Cillian a few times and that occasion was at the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain where ‘Intermission’ was being screened. When my interview with him was wrapping up I asked him could I take a photo, which wasn’t very fair of me since he wasn’t feeling the best having enjoyed a party the night before too much. He kindly allowed me but just as I was taking it he broke into a laugh saying something like, “I can’t believe you’re taking my picture”, implying he felt awful, so he must have looked awful. Turned out to be a good photo after. I liked it.
If this is what awful looks like…

Behold Scarecrow, Master of
In 2009 Cillian attended the Flat Lake Literary & Arts Festival in Co. Monaghan and got a knitting lesson at the Knitty Woolly Fun Time booth. His signed polaroid and knitted creation* were for a charity fundraiser.
The gorgeous sexy actor Cillian Murphy gives woolly fun a go. What a chore it is to teach a man like this!
*Rumours that he was trying to knit a mask are completely unfounded. :P
